Art & Soul Reloaded
There are no ideas – there are only people that carry ideas around – and these ideas get their stature from the people that carry them. – Nikos Kazantzakis, 1883-1957
It was one of those rainy days, dark and completely overcast. Makes you feel gloomy, strange at least. But for me that was an ordinary day. Shiny, bright and coloured, cause I had an early start at the studio, completely carried away by getting the colour shade right on the wide rim glass and finalising my design in scale for my Ethnic Zentangle candle holder. And amidst the – by now – all dear and familiar millimeter sheets, drawings, pastes, colours and brushes, I felt blessed… and certain that what I do, can be done by each and any of us, just as a soul healing breath. However, we do buy mass production goods (tealights, candle holders, vases), often similar to those I make by hand, from super markets or shopping malls. Mechanical move. Like always.
Let’s stop acting mechanical. Yes we consume tons and China fills up the developed world’s storage capacity and distribution channels with zillion more tons ready to be consumed too. But this does not match my flair and probably not yours either. I have a deep respect for craftsmanship, the dedication, passion and love which are needed in order to create a single, hand made object of unique quality. Maybe this is why they say that when you buy a piece of art, you also buy a part of the artist.
I imagine LilysCraftedFeelings objects in peoples’ homes, decorating, adding warmth and mood light, soothing the senses of those loaded from every day’s routine. My artwork connects me with people and life and I love to shed a note of positivity through it. This is transformed in a flow of patterns, colours and textures, making me run to the studio… Not a complaint, I find immense pleasure working with colours and different materials and it seems I got to go back to work. Let’s get ready for one more unique creation.
